Netflix Is Quietly Stacking the Best Anime Month of 2026 So Far

If you check Netflix's anime tab right now and feel like you're seeing more big names than usual, you're not imagining it. May 2026 has turned into one of the heaviest anime months Netflix has put together this year, and most of the buzz isn't about new shows. It's about giant licensed catalog drops that fans in the US have been waiting on for ages.

Here's what's actually worth your time and what to skip.

The May 1 Drop Is the Real Event

Four titles hit the platform on the same day, and any one of them would be a headline pickup on a normal month.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 is finally on Netflix in the US. That sounds wild to write because Season 2 came out years ago and has been streaming in Asia the whole time, but Netflix took its time licensing it for the American library. If you've been holding off on the Shibuya Incident arc because you didn't want to switch services, you can stop holding off.

Assassination Classroom Season 1 also dropped on May 1. It's been around for over a decade at this point, but the show holds up. Twenty two episodes, no filler, and a premise that still sounds insane on paper: a yellow octopus thing teaches a class of middle schoolers who are supposed to assassinate him before he destroys the planet. Wraps up in two seasons, so it's a clean binge.

One Piece's Whole Cake Island arc got 12 more episodes added (episodes 823 to 835), continuing the slow Netflix rollout of the long running Toei series.

Shangri La Frontier Season 1 also joined the lineup. The first season originally aired in October 2023, so this is catalog cleanup more than anything, but if you skipped it the first time around it's worth picking up before Season 2 eventually lands.

Devil May Cry Season 2 Is the Headliner

The big swing for May is on the 12th: Devil May Cry Season 2, eight episodes, all dropping at once. The first season's tease confirmed that Vergil is properly entering the picture this time, which is the moment every DMC fan has been waiting for since the show was announced.

Adi Shankar's adaptation got mixed reactions for Season 1, but it landed well enough that Season 2 is showing up with real expectations attached. If you only watch one new thing on Netflix this month, this is the safest pick.

The Sleeper Pick: My Dress Up Darling Season 2

May 25 brings the second season of My Dress Up Darling, which has been one of the more divisive sequel announcements of the year. The romance is moving forward, Gojou is sewing more, Marin is hiding her feelings worse, and the cosplay sequences are still doing the heavy lifting that made the first season blow up.

This is the one your group chat will be talking about, for better or worse.

What Else Is Worth Mentioning

Detective Conan Season 3 also hit on May 1. Conan is one of the most popular anime in Japan but only recently started getting real attention in the West, and Netflix is rolling it out season by season to make the 1,200+ episode count less terrifying. There's also some sad news attached to Conan right now: voice actress Wakana Yamazaki, who voiced Ran Mōri since the show premiered, passed away on April 18 at age 61. Akemi Okamura is taking over the role.

Akane Banashi lands on May 27. It's the Shonen Jump rakugo manga adaptation that aired in April, and reviews have been strong. Storytelling, family legacy, a young woman fighting to clear her father's name. Different from the usual battle shonen pace, and that's the point.

What to Actually Do With This

If you only have a weekend, watch Devil May Cry Season 2. If you have a full month, run Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 first and then move into Assassination Classroom. The May Dress Up Darling continuation is worth it if you finished Season 1 and didn't bounce off it.

What I'd skip for now: don't try to start One Piece through Netflix's batch rollout. It's a mess. Use a different service or wait until they have the full thing in order.
